Health Insurance

Coverage

Brittany Steffen, MS, LMFTA is not currently accepting insurance.

If you have health insurance, it will usually provide some coverage for mental health treatment.  In general I will provide you with whatever assistance I can in helping you receive the benefits to which you may be entitled.  However, you (not your insurance company) are responsible for full payment of my fees.  Please note that it is your responsibility to contact your insurance company to verify that your policy covers my services and ensure that you are aware of the number of sessions that you have available and any co-pays or deductions you may incur.  It is important that you understand that your complete confidentially may be compromised when you choose to pay for my services with your insurance benefit.  Your insurance companies has a right to review your record.  Once I disclose information in your record to your insurance company I have no control over how that information is utilized or whether or not that information is redisclosed.

Out-of-Network Coverage

If you have an insurance plan that is not listed here you may contact them and ask if you can see me on an out-of-network basis.  In these situations you will be responsible for the full payment of your session at the time of service but your insurance company may reimburse you for a portion of the fee.  It is your responsibility to discuss this with your insurance provider.

Coverage for Couples Counseling

I do not accept insurance for couples counseling.  Most insurance plans do not cover couples counseling because they do not pay for a “V code”.  Most mental health insurance plans require a medically necessary diagnosis.  “V codes” are not considered medically necessary. Additionally most plans limit session length and reimbursement to a 45-50 minute session.  For my work with couples I believe that a 90 minute session is more appropriate and therapeutically helpful.
