Anxiety

Anxiety disorders are the most common psychiatric illnesses that affect both children and adults. It is estimated that approximately 19 million adult Americans suffer from anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet only about one-third of those suffering from an anxiety disorder receive treatment. Anxiety disorders include:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  • Panic Disorder
  • Phobias
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Social Phobia

I use a variety of cognitive-behavioral and relaxation techniques to help clients conquer anxiety. Often logical lifestyle adjustments such as the cessation of  extraneous substance use (nicotine, caffeine, THC, etc.) or increased exercise can be enough to reduce anxiety.  Therapy can also be very beneficial in helping clients learn how to control their anxiety. However occasionally prescription medication may be appropriate to assist clients in getting a firmer grip on their anxiety — in some cases you may be referred to a physician for medication.
